Getting to know....Chris

Are there any particular projects or initiatives within the charity that you are passionate about or have taken a lead on?

Given that my first task for the charity was to raise some money – which I did by walking the Thames in both different directions – I do feel a connection with fundraising. I still organise a personal fundraising walk with friends along a stretch of the Thames every autumn.

What do you believe sets our charity apart from others, and why do you feel it's important to support its mission?

It is so frustrating that the biggest problem remains either the ignorance or indifference of a significant part – (albeit by no means all) – of the medical profession, making it so difficult for people to find support and underlining the importance of what the charity does.

Can you share a memorable moment or experience from your time as a trustee?

The thrill when Scott Fisher's fantastic series of marathons got picked up by ITV and went viral. We were certainly lucky-but I'd like to think to a degree one makes one's own luck :-)

What do you hope to accomplish or see achieved by our charity in the next few years?

The continuation of our growth to become a significant and recognized national charity, able to support (the search for) treatment as well as the community.

What's your favourite thing about being involved with our charity?

The fun of working with our Director of operations :-)

Can you share a fun or interesting fact about yourself that others might not know?

I once scored a try against the England rugby team having had to fill in for somebody who didn't turn up.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of your work with the charity?

I'm afraid I'm an old-fashioned petrolhead and into my classic cars.

What's a book, movie, or podcast you've recently enjoyed, and why?

The Overstory – a really powerful and moving ecological novel [that also won lots of prizes].

Is there a particular quote or saying that resonates with you and influences your approach to life?

Go for it

Can you share a memorable moment from your time volunteering or working with our charity?

The relief on finishing both Thames Walks

If you could meet any historical figure, who would it be and why?

Eric “Winkle” Brown-the world's most accomplished test pilot with a repertoire of stories and adventures to match.

What's something on your bucket list that you hope to accomplish someday?

Taking a round the world flight, stopping off in Australia and South America
